Two robots are sent back in time to find the young rebel leader John Connor. A T-1000 model (Robert Patrick) has been dispatched to kill him while the older T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger), has been sent to protect him. With his mother (Linda Hamilton) in a mental institution because of her rantings about robots and impending doom, the teenaged John (Edward Furlong) is unhappily living in a foster home. His first encounter with the robots, however, alerts John to his mother's sanity and he rescues her with the help of the T-800. The three then try to outrun the T-1000 and outwit destiny by destroying the supercomputer that will cause the nuclear war. The film was nominated for six Oscars, winning four: Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Makeup and Best Sound Effects Editing.
