Saturday Night Fever - John Travolta Memorabilia!
A teen coming-of-age movie revolving around a Brooklyn disco, this became a pop-culture phenomenon not only at the box office but with its double-album soundtrack that sold tens of millions of copies. From the opening sequence of Travolta's impeccably shod feet stepping confidently down the Brooklyn streets, a '70s icon was born. The plot follows paint-store clerk Travolta as he comes alive every Saturday night at the disco, where he rules the floor. His horizons start to expand when he teams for a dance contest with Gorney, an ambitious secretary who has her sights set on Manhattan, and a friend dies. Credit Travolta's easy sexiness in the dance sequences, the soundtrack (including the Bee Gees songs written for the movie) that blasted from every radio for months, and the exquisite timing of the release that caught the national mood of hedonism and restlessness for making this a perfect time capsule. A sequel, "Staying Alive," appeared in 1983. Academy Award nomination for Best Actor: John Travolta.
