This thoroughly enjoyable action-adventure created by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg introduces Harrison Ford as the irrepressible Indiana Jones, archeologist and thrill-seeker extraordinaire. In this installment, Indy is on the trail of the Ark of the Covenant, but so is his rival, the suave Belloq (Paul Freeman), a nasty piece of work in league with the Nazis. Indy enlists the aid of a former flame, the spunky Marion (Karen Allen), and manages to squeeze in a little romance between insanely energetic action sequences. Sparked by John Williams's terrific score, it's a thrill ride that doesn't disappoint. The movie won four Oscars, for visual effects, editing, sound effects editing, and art direction/set decoration.
