Geena Davis, Tom Hanks and Madonna star in this charming comedy about the all-women's baseball leagues of the 1940s, directed by Penny Marshall (Big, Awakenings). A Chicago candy-bar tycoon (Garry Marshall) decides to sponsor the league when the men's major leagues lost its players to recruitment for World War II. His scout (Jon Lovitz) scours the country and finds two sisters (Davis, Lori Petty), bringing them together with other hopefuls (Madonna, Rosie O'Donnell) to form a team and showing that women can play the sport just as well as men. Tom Hanks shines in a hilarious performance as an alcoholic ex-slugger who puts aside his cynicism and sexism to manage the team.
